Discover Why Students Love Our Zero to 180° training philosophy.
(And how it has helped them do more than just achieve the flat splits!)
MEET SUSHI, THREE-TIME PARTICIPANT OF THE 28-DAY SPLITS CHALLENGE…
… And officially able to do the flat splits on both sides!
Sushi was never one for dance or gymnastics, in fact prior to joining The Pole Room she couldn't even touch her toes. Like many before, Sushi fell in love with Pole and soon saw a marked improvement in her flexibility and overall health. But she wanted to master more challenging tricks, and for that knew she would have to learn the flat splits.

Now a three-time participant of the Zero to 180° challenge, Sushi is proud to say she has finally achieved her goal (and is now working towards the over-splits!). Learning proper stretching techniques have given Sushi a deeper connection to her body—and herself. But getting there was not easy. During the first challenge Sushi came close to her goal but stopped when the challenge ended. In hindsight, it was not the best decision. “When the start of the second challenge happened … I realised how far behind I had become,” she says. “I would have got there quicker had I kept at it.” Even so, Sushi thinks doing the program again has its benefits. “If you think in terms of stretching technique, you learn to stretch better each time. You learn how to breathe, and learn when to push yourself and when to hold back.”
Technique, she learned, is what achieving the flat splits is all about. For those new to pole, or attempting to reach the flat splits for the first time, Sushi recommends teacher-guided stretching, which has helped her understand how breath work enhances training. “Knowing to push yourself or not really comes down to knowing your body.” When practicing at home, Sushi worked on her stability by using blocks, helping her identify when she could push through a difficult stretch. Foam rolling also helped reduce any pain, and even helped her progress through the levels.

Sushi credits dedication and consistency with her finally achieving the flat splits. “I stretched two to three times per week in class, practicing at home almost every day or when I could,” she says. The best part? The sense of achievement. “That I could actually do it, and that confidence that came with it…. It’s the best feeling in the world!”
